Description
Paper poster, printed by the French Communist Parti (Le Parti Communiste Francais), 1945
This poster advises responses to the French constitutional referendum, held on 21 October 1945. This referendum asked two questions: first, if the voter agreed that the assembly elected that day could serve as a constitutent assembly; and second, if, until a new constitution was created, that assembly could govern by a set of laws that appeared on the reverse of the ballot paper.
The poster advises that voters should vote "yes" for the constituent assembly, and "no" for the second question. The poster connects these votes to the French patriotic view of the Republic, including the title "Vive La Republique!" and images of republican heroes, including Saint-Just, Victor Hugo and Gambetta.
