Description
A black poster with yellow text. A large number 3 takes up the majority of the page, with 'MAY' written underneath. Text to the side reads "Make the Tories pay for the Poll Tax. / Use your vote against them. / Defend our local council services." This poster was made by the Communist Party of Great Britain in response to Margaret Thatcher's unpopular 'Poll Tax' proposal, which would have changed the taxation rate from being based on worth to a fixed-rate payment per adult per household. This was largely hailed as unfair and unequal to people on lower incomes and sparked many protests, with people refusing to pay the tax and mass mobilisations around the UK- including the Poll Tax riots of March 1990. This poster references the UK local elections that were held on 3 May, 1990, urging people to vote against the Tories for their attempt to implement the Poll Tax. It was the last local elections to be held under Thatcher
before her resignation in November that year. Condition: good
