Mark Ashton was a prominent gay rights activist and co-founder of the Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners support group that was active during the Miners’ Strike in 1984-1985. He was also an organiser in the Communist Party of Great Britain.

Mark was diagnosed with HIV and died from AIDS aged 26. A Trust was established in his name to honour his life and memory through raising money for the care of people with AIDS and AIDS related complexities.

This banner was made in 1988 and features the Mark Ashton Trust logo designed by Diane Pacey. It was present at many protests and Pride marches during the 1980s and 1990s, including the Stop the Clause march in 1988.
