Description
A sticker produced by Greenpeace.
Greenpeace established itself as an environmental campaigning organisation in 1971, founded by Irving and Dorothy Stowe. One of Greenpeace's first campaigns was an anti-whaling campaign, which saw numerous protests against commercial whaling companies. In 1982 the International Whaling Commission (IWC) placed an indefinite moratorium on commercial whaling, effective from 1986. Norway is on of the few countries which continues to hunt whales commercially, sparking a Greenpeace boycott of Norwegian products in the 1990's.
This sticker is blue and white with a splatter of red to indicate blood. These three colours also make up the Norwegian flag. At the top the badge reads "Norway kills whales" in white text on a blue background. The words "Don't buy this product" are printed in the middle of the sticker in blue text on a white background. The Greenpeace logo is printed at the bottom, in white text on a blue background. The red blood spatter covers the sticker diagonally.
This sticker would have been stuck on products that originated from Norway, in order to deter customers from buying them.
