The Socialist Worker Party was founded in 1977. There was a signifant firefighter strike from 2002-2003 which is likely related to this protest badge. This was when the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) voted to take strike action for a better salary - the FBU demanded a 39% increase in pay. Industrial action began in November. The strike was led by Andy Gilchrist, the Fire Brigades Union general secretary - he is a British trade unionist and was a member of the General Council of the Trades Union Congress.
