Description
Round white badge with "Celebrating 25 Years Friends Of The Horses Field Association, Friends of the Horses Field" in black text. In the centre of the badge there is a drawing in colour of horses in a green field. Around this photo it says "Friend of the Horses Field." This badge was created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Friends of the Horses Field Association, a community-based organisation dedicated to protecting and preserving Horses Field, a valued green space.

"Horses Field" is a piece of land near West Denton and North Reddish. The owners wanted to sell it to builders but the council refused planning permission - the council paid the owners money under the land compensation act. This money was borrowed and paid back - the Horses Field then became "public open space." The campaign to protect the space started in 1991 when the council sold the land to build houses. The founding members of the Friends of the Horses Field association objected this, campaigned and set up the committee. The founders, Sue Doyle and Pat Quinn, helped protect the space and created the association to protect Horses Field from development proposals. The field has been added to the Greater Manchester green belt - the strongest protection the land can have.
