Description
Yellow poster advertising an event to commemorate 50 years since the 1926 General Strike, 1976. The poster is in the style of an old trade union plaque and reads "50 years since the general strike 1926-1976 a commemorative event." At the top, small script reads "be united and industrious", underneath which are two portraits: one a photographic print of a young woman and the other a sketch drawing of a working man. Images in the middle represent the industries and workplaces of railway workers, shipbuilders, mill workers, miners, factory workers, and farmers- all professions which went on strike during the 9 day dispute in May 1926. The slogans "Not a penny of the pay, not a minute of the day", and "knowledge is power" are printed amongst the images. Information about the event is printed at the bottom of the poster: "Programme, 20p admission, (OAPS, students, and unemployed 10p), Southall Community Centre, Bridge road, Sunday June 6th 3:00pm, presented by the West Middlesex district of the Communist Party." Condition: good, slightly folded/torn around the bottom edge and top right corner
