Description
Large Communist Party poster - the background is black and white printed images of newspaper clippings. All the clippings relate to tory austerity, unemployment, and loss of jobs. Some of these headlines, in large black writing say, "Market bosses will tax British." "You pay more and eat less." "1,023,583 Jobs butchered to make stock exchange boom." In the centre of the poster there is large red writing which says "to change all this Britain needs socialism." Underneath this it says in red capital letters "Join the Communist Party." The back of the poster has a handwritten note saying "D/C posters April 1972 "To change all this Britain needs socialism, etc." This poster is against the conservative party. arguing that they are to blame for poverty, austerity and economic inequalities. The poster is essentially advertising the communist party, saying socialism is the solution to the economic issues at the time. The early 1970s were a time of economic turmoil, with a two year recession starting in 1973. This was due to the oil crisis and fears over power shortages, which was also exacerbated by miner's strikes.
