Description
This is a small card featuring a sketch that war artist Feliks Topolski made during the International Congress of Intellectuals for Peace in 1948, a conference aimed at fighting off US imperialism after the end of the Second World War. It was organised by the Polish People's Republic and the Soviet Union. The sketch shows multiple delegates in attendance, drawn in pen and shaded with pencil. There is a stage and flags flying in the background and each figure is labelled with a name. A paper in the bottom left corner reads "Statement of war losses". Inscription on the reverse reads: "From FELIX TOPOLSKI's (sic) Conference Sketchbook. (International Congress of Intellectuals for Peace, Wroclaw (Poland), August 1948) / L. to R. J.D Bernal, Hyman Levy, Ivor Montagu, Hewlett Johnson (behind him, Julian Huxley, J.B.S Haldane."
