Description
A purple and orange poster featuring a large portrait of Black feminist, Communist, political activist, and abolitionist Angela Davis in a pop art style. The background of the poster is purple and grey whilst Davis' portrait is comprised of multiple black and orange dots. Large orange letters read "ANGELA DAVIS" at the bottom of the poster against a grey background. She is depicted as looking into the distance with a hand near her chin. The portrait looks to be from around the 1970's, possibly around the time of her arrest between 1970-1972. Davis was arrested in relation to an attempt to free the Soledad Brothers', Black men who were being charged with the murder of a prison officer. Davis was wanted in connection to guns that were used during the attempt. She was arrested in October 1970, sparking an international campaign called 'Free Angela Davis' and was and found not guilty of all charges in 1972. Since then she has published an autobiography, written multiple books on issues of
social justice, and continued to advocate for equal rights.
