Part of "100 posters, socialist image, designed by Ettore Vitale for the direction of the Italian Socialist Party." This is part of a collection of one hundred Italian Socialist Party posters designed by artist, Ettore Vitale. This poster is large, with a white and red background - the background is predominately a red colour, as there is a large image of a red carnation which occupies most of the poster. The red carnation is a symbol of socialism and the labour movement. The top of the poster has white text saying "1 Maggio Festa Del Lavoro." This means "1 May, International Workers Day," The top left of the poster has the Italian Socialist Party logo, which has a hammer and sickle,and the red carnation. This poster is in good condition. The 1 May is International workers'day, also know as Labour day. This is a celebration of labourers and the working classes that is promoted by the international Labour movementand occurs every year on May 1. It was abolished under the fascist regime and was restored after the second world war - May Day is now an important celebration in Italy and is a national holiday.
