Description
A small fabric banner reading "Refuse Cruise", 1980-1991. The banner has a white fabric background upon which the words "Refuse Cruise" have been printed above and below a peace symbol. Both the symbol and the text are red.
In 1980, during the Cold War, the UK government agreed to the deployment of US Cruise missiles in certain RAF bases. There were huge protests organised by various Peace Groups, including the CND (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament) before the missiles were removed towards the end of the Cold War. This banner is thought to have been made by the CND for one of these protests, possibly attached to a stick or flag pole.
