Description
This poster was the first in a series designed by Phillip Zec (1909 - 1983) for the Labour Party's 1945 general election campaign. The poster resulted from the Daily Mirror's drive for women to discuss the forthcoming election with their husbands, fathers and sons still serving in the army. Zec designed the first eight posters of this series in a week but refused payment for his work.

After the devastation of World War II (1939-45), many voters hoped for a better future. The poster's slogan refers to the Labour Party's manifesto commitments to nationalise industries, build better housing and establish 'social security' through the Welfare State. The support of men in the army, navy and airforce was very important in the Labour Party's election victory in 1945.
