One of the key aims of Clement Attlee's Labour government which came to power in 1945 was full employment. Full employment is an idea based on the economic ideas of John Maynard Keynes, which said that every person who was able to work, would be able to find work. Keynesian economics were adopted by post war governments in the UK until 1979.
