Part of "100 posters, socialist image, designed by Ettore Vitale for the direction of the Italian Socialist Party." This is part of a collection of one hundred Italian Socialist Party posters designed by artist, Ettore Vitale. This poster is large, with a printed photograph as the background. It shows lots of people standing together in a crowd - looks like it could be a march or protest. The top of the poster has a large number "1" in the colour pink. Underneath this, there is white text in Italian saying "Maggio Unita' Dei Lavoratori Per Governare Il Paese." The English translation od this is "1 May, workers' unity to govern the country." This poster is in good condition. The 1 May is International workers'day, also know as Labour day. This is a celebration of labourers and the working classes that is promoted by the international Labour movementand occurs every year on May 1. It was abolished under the fascist regime and was restored after the second world war - May Day is now an important celebration in Italy and is a national holiday.
