Title
What a woman may be and yet not have the vote

Date
1984

Description
A postcard featuring an illustrated design layed out like a cartoon strip. The first panel reads "What women may be, and yet not have the vote" underneath which are five illustrations titled "Mayor", "Nurse", "Mother", "Doctor or Teacher", "Factory Hand" whilst the second panel reads: "What a man may have been, & yet not lose the vote" underneath which are five illustrations titled "Convict", "Lunatic", "Proprietor of white slavers", "Unfit for service", "Drunkard". This is meant to be an argument in favour of women's suffrage at the time women did not have the vote, pointing out the double standard present, but uses terms and concepts we now find unacceptable or outdated.

This is a reproduction of an original artwork by the Suffrage Atelier made by the Museum of London in 1984 (copyright)
