Peggy Seeger was an American folk singer, who came to Britain in 1956 following a visit to China and the USSR which would have seen her passport confiscated on return to the USA, due to McCarthy era politics. Once she came to Britain, she fell in love with fellow folk artist Ewan MacColl, though he was married at the time. Seeger and MacColl often performed together, and married in 1977.

Ewan MacColl was an British folk artist, born in Salford, England to Scottish parents. He wrote and performed many political songs, and was long associated with the Communist Party of Great Britain. Born James Miller, MacColl took part in the Kinder Scout Mass Trespass in the 1930s.
