Description
Poster, advertising an exhibition of posters from South and Central America called "La Lucha"

The poster is white, with the title written in yellow letters inside red blue and green blocks. Above is an white silhouette of a man in front of a wall, with some stones painted to look like flags. Beneath reads "The wall in this poster was built by Inca stonemasons in the Peruvian city of Cuzco in the 15th Century. Following the Spanish invasion of Peru these walls were toppled and used as foundations for the new architectural monuments to the new European rulers. The white figure is Sandino; images like this are to be found all over Nicaragua stencil sprayed onto walls. Sandino's attempt to liberate Nicaragua from U.S. domination still inspired disenfranchised people throughout the Americas. The struggle - La Lucha - for liberation and peace continues."

The poster, whilst advertising an exhibition, also highlights the issues in post-colonial Latin America, especially due to the United States of America's interventionist policies, which it followed throughout the Cold War to limit the spread of left-wing ideas, especially Communism. The exhibition was held by Valley & Vale/Cwm a Bro in Wales. Proceeds from the exhibition went to cultural activists working in Chile and Nicaragua.
