Description
Poster, "Venceremos" (We will win), 1985

Very colourful poster, featuring a collage of multiple images. The centre of the poster is a medly of styles and influences, representing various aspects of Chile and the Chilean fight for freedom. Some of the images include overt symbolism with well-known meanings; raised fists, doves of peace and CND/Peace symbols. Some of the stylation, however, is indicative of more indiginous cultural art, or specific references to the issues Chile faced during the Pinochet regime, including an image of Pinochet in sunglasses (being flushed down a toilet) and images of eyes behind bars (suggesting prison). Around the edge of the page reads "Viva la rebellion popular!", "10 Anos de Lucha", "Anti-fascista del Pueblo Chileno" and "Con la Razon y la Fuerza" (meaning, respectively: Long Live the Popular Rebellion; 10 Years' Fight; Anti-Fascist Chilean People; and With Reason and Strength) Beneath the final sentence reads "Venceremos", which means "we will win" in this context. (All translations from Google Translate).

The poster marks 10 years since the Chilean coup, which forced many Chilean people into exile from the repressive Pinochet regime.
