Description
Yellow poster, "Solidarity with the People of Chile and Latin America", printed by the Chile Solidarity Campaign.
The poster has a white image of South America wrapped in barbed wire. From the top of the sub-continent is a clenched fist in red and blue. At the top right (facing) is the title, and in the bottom right is text reading "No U.S. Intervention in Central America" in red and "No Tory Arms for Chile" in blue. The poster was printed by Jan Brown Designs, London. Poster is mounted on board, with a label providing the date 1981.
The poster was produced by the Chile Solidarity Campaign in solidarity with the people of Chile who were living under the Military Dictatorship of Pinochet, and many countries in Central and Southern America where the United States' interventionist policies were perpetuating unrest, such as Nicaragua and El Salvador. The poster is also opposing the sale of armaments (or 'arms') to the dictatorship in Chile, which was known to be undertaking human rights abuses.
