Description
An election poster featuring a pack of sausages - a yellow sticker with red writing saying 'usual price 17p' has been crossed out in blue, and a large star shaped blue sticker with white writing says 'Tory price 26p'. The poster also says 'We can't afford another Tory government. Only Labour can get us out of this mess.'

Following the worldwide oil price crisis in 1973, Edward Heath's Conservative Party government could not control rising inflation. which was leading to increased prices for food. This Labour Party election poster for the 1974 general election emphasises this failure, concentrating directly on basic issues for working class voters. The stickers on the sausage package represent the colours used by the Labour Party (yellow and red) and the Conservative Party (blue and white).

The Conservative Party lost the 1974 election, and Harold Wilson's Labour Party formed a new government from 1974-1979. However their attempts to combat inflation also failed.
