Disabled People's Direct Action Network (DAN)
Description
Black pin badge with pink writing, reading "DAN says: Piss on Pity". DAN is the acronym for the Disabled People's Direct Action Network, a campaign group fighting for the civil rights of disabled people. Piss on Pity is a common slogan in disabled campaigning as a push back against the medical-charitable model of disability. Disabled people campaigning using this slogan view charity as patronising, and as a way for governments to ignore their responsibilities around disabled equality by expecting disabled people to rely on charities to provide equipment and support.
