Description
Paddington Printshop was a graphic art and printmaking centre active in west London between 1975 and 1989. The Printshop worked collaboratively with members of local organisations and campaigns to create over 400 poster designs, and thousands of leaflets. The printshop was active in the 70's and 80's, producing posters on a wide range of political issues, including for educational purposes. The group was not-for-profit and used a variety of hand-printing techniques to create their posters. This is a black, white and red screen printed poster. It has a black background, and is titled "Another empty home." There is an image of a black door, with the number 7 on the top. There is a large red cross across the door. The bottom of the poster has text reading, "Westminster. 7000 empty homes, 7000 Homeless on waiting list." This poster was produced in 1976 and was produced by Pippa Smith. This poster was part of a campaign intending to embarrass housing associations thatwere buying
propertiesand leaving them empty. Large red crosses were spray painted on the doors and windows of these properties. The campaign became national and the poster was reproduced in thousands.
