The Third International was a Communist Party of the Soviet Union controlled organisation established in 1919 to advocate for communism around the world. Their main aim, agreed at their 1920 Congress was to "struggle by all available means, including armed force, for the overthrow of the international bourgeoisie and the creation of an international soviet republic as a transition stage to the complete abolition of the state". Robin Page-Arnott was a lifelong Communist Party of Great Britain member.

The 3rd Congress took place following the failure of the German revolution, and the introduction of the New Economic Policy of state controlled capitalism in the Soviet Union. There were sixteen British delegates - fourteen from the Communist Party of Britain, 1 from the Socialist Party, and 1 from the Anti-Parliamentary Communist Federation. There were seven Congresses of the Third International between 1919 and 1935. Stalin dissolved the organisation in 1943 to enable his wartime alliance with the USA and Britain.
