Description
White circular badge with black text reading "INTERNATIONAL LESBIAN AND GAY People of Colour CONFERENCE 1990". At the bottom are two Mars symbols interlinking in yellow. Brown spots are a sign of discolouration with age.

The International Lesbian and Gay People of Colour Conference was held in 1990, the first of its kind outside the US. It was organised by the Black Lesbian and Gay Centre (BLGC), a group of activists established in 1985 in Haringey, London. The BLGC’s original definition of Black was inclusive of all people of colour. The Centre provided a library, helpline, social and cultural events and community resources, which reached around the UK beyond their North London base. Oral histories of the BLGC are held at Bruce Castle Museum, Tottenham, London.

The gender symbol for male, also known as the Mars symbol, is a circle below an arrow pointing diagonally upward to the right. Two interlocking male symbols like this represent the gay community.
