London Lesbian and Gay Switchboard was founded on 4 March 1974 as an information and support helpline, in response to calls to Gay Liberation Front and Gay News. Still operating today as Switchboard, the helpline has answered over 4 million calls, helping people navigate anti-LGBTQIA discrimination such as Section 28; the AIDS epidemic; employment issues; civil partnerships and marriage equality; and trans and non-binary healthcare, among many others.
