Description
Leaflet for London March for Peace 1972 organised by Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND). Text in white and black is arranged around two large peace symbols in oragne and black. Further text reads "March for Peace this Easter to Britain's H-Bomb Research Establishment at Aldermaston. Peace Festival - Words & Music, Poets, Bands, Singers, and a Play. Intro: John Peel [the BBC Radio 1 DJ]." The march and festival was held over four days from Good Friday, starting at Trafalgar Square, to Easter Monday, leaving from Reading. The reverse side contains lots more, smaller text of CND's mission and more information about nuclear weapons.
CND is an organisation that campaigns for peace and for governments around the world to demilitarise and discard existing and new nuclear weapons programmes. The Aldermaston marches, also known as the Easter marches, took place between 1958 and 1965, with the CND organising them from 1959. There were intermittent revivals of the original march from 1972 and 2004. Tens of thousands of people attended each year.
