Description
A black poster with red writing saying 'No nuclear weapons' above a grey scale photo of a fist crushing a nuclear missile. 'The Labour Party' is written at the bottom of the poster.

This undated poster was officially produced by the Labour Party, during the 1980s when opposition to the UK's nuclear weapons program was official party policy. The UK's nuclear weapons program was initiated by a Labour government during the Second World War, however by the late 1950s, during the Cold War, the party's left wing pushed for the party to advocate for nuclear disarmament. Despite this internal opposition, during Labour's next two terms of government in the 1960s and 1970s, they continued to acquire and modernise nuclear weapons, leading to party members voting to make unilateral nuclear disarmament the official policy of the Labour Party. Today Labour supports the Trident nuclear weapons program both in and out of government.
