Peace Pledge Union
Description
White postcard with an illustration of a flying dove around which text reads "PEACE PLEDGE UNION - OUR HOPE A FUTURE WITHOUT WAR". There is a blank space for writing on one half. Text at the bottom reads "THE PEACE PLEDGE UNION WORKS FOR A FUTURE WITHOUT WAR".
Founded in 1934, the Peace Pledge Union (PPU) promotes pacifism and nonviolence, educates on conscientious objection, and challenge everyday normalisation and veneration of the military. PPU distribute the white poppy each year in the run-up to Remembrance Day, as a symbol of remembrance of all victims of war, a challenge of militarism, and a commitment to peace. The poppies were first made in 1933 by the Co-operative Women's Guild, many of whom had lost family and friends in the First World War.
