Description
A yellow printed booklet. The cover has a picture of a dove flying over a sunflower and the title 'Songs for Caroline. Molesworth. 20th Oct. 84. The back cover says 'Molesworth Green Village' and has a different image of a dove holding three stalks of wheat.
This booklet was created at Molesworth Peace Camp as part of a memorial service for Caroline Taylor after her death in 1984. Taylor was one of the founders of Greenham Peace Camp, which, like Molesworth, was founded to protest the housing of United States Air Force cruise missiles at military bases in the UK. She had previously also organised music centred protests at RAF Greenham before pivoting to an occupation camp.
The booklet contains handwritten sheet music notation and lyrics to short songs, including one titled 'We all come from the Goddess' which is an example of New Age or Pagan religious belief systems in the UK. The lyrics of this song are 'We all come from the Goddess, and to her we shall return, like a drop of rain flowing to the ocean'. Greenham Common was a women only, and feminist camp. Some feminists in the late 20th century chose to reinterpret their spiritual beliefs to centre female representations of divinity, like the 'Goddess' referenced in the song.
