Description
This is a preliminary sketch for a banner designed by the artist Ken Sprague and made by his sister Pat Meaden. The design had its roots in the badge designed for NALGO in its early years. The sun and moon represent round-the-clock work by NALGO members in all their public services.
In 1993 NALGO merged with the other public service unions, the National Union Of Public Employees and Confederation Of Health Service Employees to form UNISON. Ken Sprague was a leading British socialist artist whose work focused on leftist causes and often highlighted working class resistance to abuses of power. The banner this sketch was used to create is also in the collection at People's History Museum.
