Description
A white leaflet with black text: 'Stop the War Russian Troops Out No NATO Expansion No Nuclear War’. The o in Stop is shaped like a blood splatter. A logo for Stop the War Coalition - showing a crossed out nuclear weapon is in the top right corner.

This leaflet was created by the Stop the War Coalition, shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

The reverse is text opposing the invasion and calling for de-escalation and an immediate cease fire. The leaflet goes on to oppose NATO expansion, identifying the invasion of Ukraine as a 'proxy war between Russia and NATO' (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), and condemning the participation of the USA, Britain and other NATO powers in 'wars of aggression' around the world including Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 has become the largest and deadliest military conflict in Europe since the end of the Second World War with hundreds of thousands of military casualties, and tens of thousands of civilian deaths. In late 2021, Russia began to gather military forces near Ukraine's borders, demanding that Western powers permanently ban Ukraine from ever joining NATO. Ukraine is an aspiring member of NATO, and when the demand to bar their entry was not met, Russia invaded in February 2022. NATO is a military alliance between 30 European states, the United States, and Canada - if one of the member countries is attacked, the others are treaty bound to offer military assistance. During the Cold War, NATO was viewed as a check on the Soviet Union, and under the Putin administration, Russia sees neighbouring countries joining NATO to be a hostile anti-Russian act.

Note: As the invasion of Ukraine is ongoing, information given which was accurate at the time of writing may change in future.
