This record was produced as a fundraiser for striking miners during the 1984-85 Miners' Strike. Grimethorpe Colliery's brass band features on the record. A coal mine having a brass band was quite common - playing in the brass band with colleagues was a good way to strengthen social bonds between workers, and colliery bands performed at community events. When the Miners' Strike ended, in many areas the colliery band accompanied the miners on their return to the pit for the first time.
