Description
A red banner with an image of two men working on machine engines, with three vehicles behind them. In the four corners are the icons of the trade unions recognised in the workplace (clockwise: AUEW, GMWU, EEPU, TGW). Text reads: 'Ford Shop Stewards Committee Langley'.
This banner was made for the workers in the Ford car plant in Langley, near Slough. The union logos around the edge of the image show how in workplaces, particularly those where a variety of kinds of skilled manual labour take place, more than one trade union might be required to represent the workforce, as many unions are specialised to particular kinds of work. The Transport and General Workers Union (TGWU) was one of the largest trade unions in the UK founded in 1922, until it amalgamated with another union, Amicus, in 2007 to form Unite the Union.
