Description
A 19th century broadsheet with two columns of printed text. Screen right is titled 'Address from the Unemployed Operatives to their Christian Friends' and left is titled 'Tradesman's Lamentation'. Each column has above it a woodcut illustration in black and white. The right hand illustration is of a man writing at a desk in a well appointed room, while another man stands and speaks to him. The left hand illustration is of a group of four workers outdoors discussing something.
Broadsheets were an early form of printed communication that could be printed and mass distributed, and were often used to communicate political messages. This one shares messages of solidarity between unemployed artisans and tradesmen a time of high unemployment across England.
