Description
Screenprinted poster, âPaddington printshopâ in the top right in yellow on a black background. The full page poster is a comic strip of people talking and printing in a print shop. The first strip shows a person on the phone saying âhello, our campaign needs posters and leaflets, when can I visit the print shop?â The next panel shows another person on the phone saying âcan you come in on Tuesday at 11 o'clock if you leave the day free, weâll get started right awayâ. The comic strip continues with this information. The bottom right is a starburst with more information with the address and ânothing sexist, racist or commercial please!â The border is white.
This poster was made by Paddington Printshop, a community graphic design and print workshop in West London, co-founded by John Phillips and Pippa Smith. Between 1975-1991, the centre printed over 400 designs for left-wing community organisations. These publicised local political campaigns such as housing rights and food co-ops, to social gatherings including play days, gardening clubs, gigs and festivals. Their do-it-yourself style was part of the proto-punk ethos.
