Description
Screenprinted poster, "Don't lose your right to vote" in bold white text at the top in English, Chinese and Bengali. Below is an illustration of a black hand posting a yellow ballot into a ballot box. Text on the side of the box reads "In order to vote in any election you need to complete a voter registration form. The Westminster Voter Registration Project is here to encourage and help you do this." also in Chinese and Bengali. A small logo reads "GLC [Greater London Council] funded". Black text on a yellow background at the bottom reads "Please phone us" in all three languages again and "828 3360".
This poster was made by Paddington Printshop, a community graphic design and print workshop in West London, co-founded by John Phillips and Pippa Smith. Between 1975-1991, the centre printed over 400 designs for left-wing community organisations. These publicised local political campaigns such as housing rights and food co-ops, to social gatherings including play days, gardening clubs, gigs and festivals. Their do-it-yourself style was part of the proto-punk ethos.
