Description
Salvoconducto, or safe conduct certificate, issued to Fred Pearson during the Spanish Civil War. The certificate is printed on to cream coloured paper, with the crest of the Spanish Republic in the top left hand corner. Details of the certificate, such as Pearson's name, his unit, and the dates of travel have been added by typewriter. Dated October 1938. In the bottom right corner is a very pale stamp. It appears that the certificate is part of a larger page, with a perforated top edge.

The certificate allowed the holder to move from the war zone to Barcelona. Salvoconductos were issues to foreign volunteers throughout the Spanish Civil War, allowing them to move through the country in some safety.

Fred Pearson owned the fan, signed by other foreign nationals fighting in the Spanish Civil War, NMLH.2011.14.1.
