Description
Sash from the N.A.W.U.M.E.A. Islington Branch. A green sash with red vertical stripes alongside the side edges. Thin, tightly rope-braided metallic thread used for the fringe, and thicker, coiled metallic thread used for embroidery. Embroidered lettering spells out âN.A.W.U // M.E.A // Islington // Branch // United // J.Sâ, and there are embroidered designs if a handshake and a laurel leaf. Along the right edge, at points 38cm from the top and 38cm from the bottom, there is a hook and an eye sewn in to the wrong side of the fabric, presumably to attach these edges and secure the sash in a folded position. Covering these on the right side of the fabric is coiled metallic thread in the shape of a domed circle towards the bottom edge of the sash, and a domed circle with four tassels of loosely coiled metallic thread close to the top edge of the sash. A makerâs label on the wrong side of the fabric reads âGEORGE TUTILL // 83 CUTY RD. LONDONâ.
