Shoemakers' Society apron, about 1832
Used by shoemakers in Duns, Southern Scotland in their secret meetings, the painted images are the crown of St Crispin, their patron saint, and the leatherworker's half moon knife. It was worn as an apron with the shoemakers' banner that you can see earlier in the museum, to celebrate the passing of the Reform Act of 1832.
