Description
A red t-shirt with white lettering reading "500 Liverpool Dockers sacked since September 1995".
In 1995, dockers in Liverpool began a dispute with Mersey Docks and the Harbour Company when workers were sacked for refusing to cross a picket line when other dockers were on strike. The resulting industrial action lasted three years, culminating in a redundancy settlement in 1998. Iin 1997, Liverpool footballer Robbie Fowler showed his support for the striking workers by wearing a t-shirt like the one above underneath his football journey. After the match, he was fined £900 for making a political statement in support of the dockworkers.
