Description
An oil painting of a semi-urban landscape. There is a view of Spennymoor's terraced houses surrounded by trees and green fields.
This painting is by the artist Dorothy Carr who also created work under the name Sarah Firmin. It is of the Spennymoor Settlement in County Durham which she and her husband, the painter Francis Carr, visited in 1951, both producing their own work and running classes for coal miner artists.
Francis and Dorothy Carr are sometimes attributed as the first artists to use screen printing as a fine art in its own right.
