Description
An oil painting of an urban landscape. It is an extensive view of Spennymoor settlement with houses, factories and hills in the background. The main colours used are green and black.
This painting is by the artist Dorothy Carr who also created work under the name Sarah Firmin. It is of the Spennymoor Settlement in County Durham which she and her husband, the painter Francis Carr, visited in 1951, both producing their own work and running classes for coal miner artists.
Francis and Dorothy Carr are sometimes attributed as the first artists to use screen printing as a fine art in its own right.
