This advertisement encouraging women to take free training from the Ministry of Labour's National Employment Exhcange Service dates from around 1930.


From 1916, the Ministry of Labour had responsibility for employment, industrial relations, health and safety, compilation of statistics, training and military recruitment. Training for women in this period was almost exclusively for domestic work. Domestic servants made up one fifth of the workforce.
