Round yellow badge with text "NO! TO ANCOATS CASUALTY CLOSURE".
The badge was made for the Ancoats Action Group campaign against the decision to close the Accident & Emergency department at Ancoats Hospital in 1987. The campaign failed to prevent the closure, but community members staged a sit-in from 1 February, the date of the closure, until 11 September for a total of 223 days. While the A&E department remained closed, the Health Authority promised to open a community clinic in Ancoats.
