Disability Rights Day was established by the Disability Rights Commission in 2002, to encourage people to examine their attitudes towards disability, and to raise awareness of hidden disabilities.
The first Disability Rights Day featured shops in central Manchester using mannequins that represented people with disabilities, both seen and hidden, to raise people's awareness whilst shopping.
