White marble ? bust of Arthur Henderson. This bust is a duplicate of one presented to the Secretary General of the League of Nations in 1934
Arthur Henderson (1863-1935) was an ironfounders' union activist who became a Labour MP in 1903. Though an internationalist, he was patriotic and joined the coalition war cabinet as the representative of the Labour PArty. Henderson went on to become Home Secretary in the first Labour government of 1924 and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. This bust depicts him towards the end of his life.
