A monochrome supplement page from a 1933 issue of The New Statesman. Ernest Bevin is very rotund and has a pipe in his mouth.


This cartoon was printed in The New Statesman in 1933, and drawn by an artist called Low. Ernest Bevin was a union leader, and a Labour Party politician. When Bevin was Minister of Labour and National Service, during the Second World War, he organised the mass mobilisation of Britain's workforce towards the war effort.
