A century on from the first recorded instance of anti-fascist action in the UK, when Communists disrupted the inaugural meeting of ‘British Fascisti’ on 7 October 1923, this display puts the spotlight on the continuing story of resistance to fascism in the UK today.
Objects on display, including ceramics, photographs, and badges, tell the stories of the changing face of British communities targeted by the far right, and the continued resistance against these attempts to divide society, from the Battle of Cable Street in 1936, to the Rock Against Racism movement of the 1970s and 1980s, and beyond.
Suitable for all ages.
Take a deeper dive into objects in PHM’s collection which put the spotlight on key modes of British anti-fascist resistance from the past and present, with our Collections Assistant Jaime Starr.
