Join us on the 40th anniversary of the final day of the 1984 to 1985 Miners’ Strike and uncover the stories of a defining event in Britain’s history.

Join PHM’s expert Archive Team and delve into the the museum’s Miners’ Strike collections, including:

Hilary Wainwright papers, containing material from Women Against Pit Closures, Miners Christmas Appeal, and issues of PitWatch magazine
Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) campaign group papers
Individual MPs’ papers, including those of Eric Heffer, Michael Foot, and Judith Hart, reflecting the impact of the strike
Newspapers and other publications carrying detailed reports on the strike, including Labour Weekly, New Socialist, Socialist Youth, Militant, Labour Student, London Labour Briefing, and Marxism Today
Photographs of demonstrations and picketing selected from the Labour Party photographic collection

You can also explore the 2025 Banner Exhibition featuring the original Lesbians & Gays Support The Miners banner, 1984 which for the first time at PHM has been displayed so visitors can view both sides of the design, and the Young Communists say Coal Not Dole banner, 1984. As well as badges, pamphlets, mugs, posters, and photographs.
